Workforce

SriLankan has a global workforce of approximately 4,900 employees in Sri Lanka and overseas, including its subsidiary SriLankan Catering (Pvt) Ltd. The airline has strong training programmes in all aviation related fields, in order to cater to its own expansion and the constant need to replace staff who are in high demand by other airlines.

In-flight Comforts

The SriLankan fleet contains luxurious seats that have ample pitch and width. Seating is in a two-class system of Business and Economy classes. All seats are equipped with the latest in in-flight entertainment with 18 video channels including air-show with forward and downward cameras; seat-back television, 22-audio channels and 16 video games in all seats. Business Class also has an on-demand movie library with over 30 titles.

A fully owned subsidiary of SriLankan Airlines, SriLankan Catering provides on-board catering services for airlines that operate through Colombo. Its state of the art flight kitchen has a production capacity of over 25,000 meals per day, in a 24-hour operation, 365 days a year.

MICE Tourism

Airline Training

SriLankan's International Aviation Academy caters to manpower requirements of airlines, airports, travel agents, and other aviation industry organizations. It is accredited with the International Airline Training Association (IATA), City & Guilds, Edexcel International, Asian Institute of Technology, the Association of Certified Chartered Accountants (ACCA), Chartered Institute of Management Accountants of the United Kingdom (CIMA-UK), the Chartered Institute of Marketing of the United Kingdom ( CIM-UK), the Institute of Chartered Accountants (ICA), the Travel Agents' Association of Sri Lanka, and the Sri Lanka Association of Inbound Tour Operators.

The Academy won the prestigious title of Best Tourism Education & Training Effort at the Presidential Awards for Travel and Tourism in 2008.

SriLankan is currently constructing a Full Flight Simulator Centre at Bandaranaike International Airport in partnership with SIM Industries BV of the Netherlands, which is scheduled to be commissioned in early 2011, and is expected to become a regional hub for pilot training.

SriLankan's Technical Training School, which is certified to the EASA 147 standard, provides comprehensive training for both pilots and engineering staff, and is accredited by the aviation authorities of Pakistan, the Maldives, and Sri Lanka.

The community development arm of the airline, SriLankan Cares actively participates in fundraising and charity activities, with its main focus being the empowerment of children.

SriLankan Cares has carried out major development projects in three rural schools in different parts of the country, providing buildings and infrastructure such as classrooms, libraries, and computer labs.
