SriLankan Airlines has been voted Best Airline in South Asia for the third consecutive time by thousands of readers of the prestigious travel trade magazine group Travel Trade Gazette.

TTG is a group of travel trade publications that disseminate the latest information on travel and tourism in Asia. Established in Singapore since 1974, TTG has offices in Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, Bangkok, Jakarta, Manila, Hong Kong and Taipei. TTG Asia is one of the most widely read publications in Asia. TTG Asia Media is also the leading organiser and manager of travel events in Asia.

SriLankan Airlines has in recent years achieved global recognition for its standards in excellence, winning such prestigious titles as “World’s Best Airline” in a survey of Economy Class passengers, “World’s Friendliest Cabin Staff”, first runner-up for “World’s Best Cabin Staff”, “Best Overall Inflight Entertainment (for a fleet size of 20 or less)”, “Best Airline Turnaround of the Year 2004”, and “World’s Most Efficient Operator of Airbus A330s (in the small fleet category)” in 2002 and 2003 from Airbus Industrie.
Skywards, the frequent flyer programme of SriLankan and its strategic partner Emirates which counts more than 1.4 million members, has swept the global frequent flyer awards over the last three years, including the coveted title of “Programme of the Year” in 2003 and 2005.
SriLankan has also dominated regional awards, winning the Skytrax award for Best Airline in Central Asia for four consecutive years, as well as the TTG award.
The TTG Travel Awards cover the entire travel industry including airlines, hotels (beach resorts, non-beach resorts, spas, airport hotels, luxury, budget, residencies, business hotels, and city hotels), airports, cruise operators, theme parks, global distribution systems, travel agencies, and travel personalities.
Readers, who included passengers and travel agents, were asked to vote for the airline that they felt was the best in terms of service, network, schedules, was the most agent-friendly to others in the travel trade, and had the most professional sales and marketing team in terms of innovative ideas and incentive programmes.
The award will be presented on 13th October at the 16th Annual TTG Travel Awards Ceremony at the Royal Cliff Beach Hotel in Pattaya, Thailand.
SriLankan now flies to 48 destinations in 27 countries throughout Europe, the Middle East, the Far East, South Asia, and Southeast Asia. These include nearly 90 flights per week to 9 cities in India.
The SriLankan Airlines fleet contains state-of-the-art Airbus A340, A330 and A320 aircraft with luxurious seats that have ample pitch and width. Seating is in a 2-class system of Business and Economy classes. All seats are equipped with the latest in in-flight entertainment with 18-channel seat-back television, 22-channel audio and 16 video games in all seats, with Business Class having a choice of videos as well.
SriLankan’s domestic service, SriLankan Air Taxi, serves 14 destinations with amphibious Dehavilland Single Otter aircraft.
The airline is also involved in Adventure Tourism through SriLankan Adventures, and promotes the island as a prime location for Meetings, Incentives, Conventions and Exhibitions (MICE tourism).
